Nutrient Agar
Our Nutrient Agar is a classic, non-selective solid medium engineered for routine microbiological culture. Its well-balanced blend of peptones (5 g/L), beef/yeast extract (3 g/L), NaCl (5 g/L), and agar (15 g/L) supports reliable microbial growth while maintaining osmotic stability . Simply dissolve 23–28 g/L, sterilize by autoclaving (121 °C, 15 min), cool to around 50 °C, and pour into sterile Petri dishes. The resulting medium is firm, slightly opalescent, and yields vibrant colonies from a broad spectrum of organisms, including E. coli and S. aureus .
For specialized applications, supplements such as defibrinated blood (5–10 % v/v), serum, or growth factors can be added post-autoclave to culture fastidious microbes
